Legislative Activities
Legislative policy affects dairy farmers and their businesses. With more than 2,300 members located throughout seven Northeast states, it is imperative that Dairylea take an active role in providing information to our elected officials on the issues and challenges facing dairy and production agriculture. The legislative group at Dairylea proactively reaches out to state and federal legislators to establish relationships that extend beyond the issue at hand and works to foster open dialog on continual basis.
As a member of Dairylea, you can participate in the legislative process first hand as a Dairylea Ambassador. Members tapped to be a Dairylea Ambassadors are those with the inner spirit to tell about their passion for dairying and their farm's unique story to those they've elected into office. Now, more than ever, we need farmers engaged in this process to help bridge the gap between policy makers and production agriculture. Whether it's through visits to Washington, D.C., to your state's capital, or through e-mail or a phone call, there are many opportunities to have your voices heard.
Additionally, Dairylea members can contribute to LEAPAC - its political action committee - in order to financially support those legislators who support agriculture and dairy. Members can make a one-time contribution or support through a monthly check deduction. For more information or to discuss a donation, please contact Karen Cartier at 1-800-654-8838, ext. 5669.
Each month Dairylea's legislative group provides an update on state and federal issues in the Dairylea Checkletter. Additionally, weekly updates can be found in Friday Facts and we will also issue Ambassador Alerts when needed, asking members to voice their position on a particular issue. As a Dairylea Ambassador, you will have specialized access to Washington D.C. insiders and to important stakeholders on the state level as well.
